PLAYMAKER

PLAYMAKER - Opening First Thursday, April 1st, 2010

PLAYMAKER is an exhibition of new works by Jordan Gehman. The installation and objects on display toy with interaction and playfulness as a point of entry.

About the artist:

Jordan Gehman questions his relationship with functional objects. He works within the human scale creating forms that employ the language of functional yet remain essentially useless. He received his MFA from San Diego State University and his BFA from Maine College of Art.

Check out Jordan's past work here:

MARCH - DEPARTURE POINT

.

GARBAGEMAN ASTRONAUT Project Space presents Departure Point, new paintings by Preston Graves, Grant Hottle, and Michael Lorefice, three artists who explore spatial representation, the language of abstraction, and the studio as a site for inquiry. The works on display are symptomatic of the paradox of vision in the fractured present while remaining thematically and conceptually linked to the history of painting. Still life objects and landscapes are manipulated by memory and invention, alternately flattened and illusionistically rendered. At once tightly structured and subtly unhinged, the work provides an authentic chance to re-examine our layered notions of reality.

Grant Hottle
Portland-based artist Grant Hottle's perspectival images mash together conventional space with flattened abstraction and stylistic fancy. He received his MFA from the University of Oregon and a BFA from the University of Oklahoma. He has had recent shows at Archer Gallery, Davidson Galleries in Seattle, and was included in the annual Summer Introductions show at the Seattle Art Museum Gallery. Hottle is represented by Half/Dozen Gallery.

Preston Graves

Preston Graves lives and works in Tempe, Arizona. He holds an MFA from the University of Oregon and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has exhibited his work nationally from coast to coast and enjoys watching his favorite film Planet of the Vampires.

Michael Lorefice

Seattle-based artist Michael Lorefice combines personal objects and everyday images to form new meanings through formal relationships and unexpected occurrences. Lorefice is the co-founder of Seattle's ARK Studios. He holds an MFA from the Memphis College of Art and a BA from Colgate University.
